The most heartwarming bowl of lentil soup I’ve ever had, with a tasty drizzle of olive oil, served by the sweetest lady in Astoria. Feels like a hug every time.

I've found my new favorite sandwich spot in the city! The game-changer is their freshly baked, homemade bread - it elevates the entire experience. The coffee is also perfectly crafted, with just the right balance of sugar, almond milk, and rich flavor. But what truly sets this gem apart is the warm atmosphere and exceptional service. The owner's kindness and hospitality made us feel right at home. She even surprised us with a complimentary treat on our way out! What impressed me most was her generosity and trust. She encouraged us to enjoy our meal without rushing to pay, showing that she genuinely cares about her customers' experience. If you're looking for a truly exceptional dining experience, look no further!

So glad I stopped in this shop! I got avocado toast and an iced coffee, both portions were very generous and well made. The owner Maria’s bread and hot sauce are both home made and truly delicious. She also let me try her lentil soup which is full of flavor and a generous amount of olive oil. Overall 10/10. I can’t wait to stop by next time I’m in NYC:)

I just met a woman named Maria, and she is literal sunshine. From the moment we stepped into this cafe, my boyfriend, my dog, and I, all felt so welcomed! She makes all of her food from scratch, and you can genuinely taste the love that goes into it. We shared the lentil soup, and the chicken with peaches, all of it melted in our mouths. Her hot sauce should be sold in bottles, and is what hot sauce should all taste like. Made with such fresh ingredients, and the homemade bread is to die for. Cannot recommend this cafe enough! Maria is light, and places like this should be supported by everyone! Thanks for your kindness, and we'll be back very soon!

I can’t begin to say enough about Maria and this cafe. You ever stumble upon a small business that makes you feel like you’re back at home? Maria invited us in like she had known us our whole life. Sharing her story, asking about ours. Hand on your shoulder. The type of woman that has a true genuine aura about her. Loves her neighborhood. Warm, welcoming, and full of heart. Which in a fast pace city is hard to find. I felt like I was sitting in my Nona’s kitchen with my family. A true gem of Astoria that we are lucky to have. We sat down & enjoyed our coffee and pastry. Thank you maria for making our Friday morning! - Skyler & Haley

This small local restaurant is a hidden gem. Maria, the owner and chef, puts her heart into every dish and welcomes you like family. Everything is fresh and delicious, but for me, nothing beats her orange juice—sweet, natural, and freshly squeezed, the best I’ve ever had! The atmosphere is cozy and relaxing, perfect for taking a break from the day. Every visit leaves me wanting to come back. Without a doubt, my favorite spot in town. 💛🍊

Had breakfast at Mary's Sunshine Cafe, the food was just fantastic. The egg and Swiss cheese sandwich was so yummy, with fluffy homemade bread, and that special green sauce enhanced the flavor 10x. She also served me with a glass of fresh orange juice, very smooth and refreshing. The place is a hidden gem, a must-do experience in Astoria. I'd definitely go again.

Maria’s Moroccan inspired food was homemade, healthy, and delicious. Perfect for a cold winter day. We got a spinach and garlic egg sandwich, Turkish coffee, and a beet/spinach/berry juice. The homemade hot sauce was 🔥. After that we had to get something else, so we sat for a while and followed it up with a couscous plate (squash, sweet potato, eggplant, chickpea, fava, bean, meatball). Everything was so good we got another couscous plate to go + spinach pie + lentil soup & bread (for my sick sister) + her almond flour cookies stuffed with pistachios and dates.
